As a first time mum I always thought breastmilk would come through the last two weeks before giving birth, but it didn't (not for me anyways) and so then I thought it would have a full supply straight away after giving birth. I wouldn't say I struggled with my breastmilk supply but I felt like it wasn't enough and if I was to squeeze breastmilk out, it would only be a small drizzle.
COCONUT COOKING MILK & SHREDDED COCONUT
When I came home from the hospital my mum boiled coconut cooking milk (from the tin) in a pot and added shredded coconut, and once it was boiled my mum told me to have a shower and to massage the coconut milk onto my breast and to make sure I get a lot of the shredded coconut and massage the shredded coconut all over my breast. It honestly worked instantly, I was shocked and breastmilk was instantly squirting out and my breast pad was filling up so fast.
CABBAGE
Second time round was a lot more painful and because I was already breastfeeding my son my breast were already producing milk. But my milk supply wasn't a lot to wear breast pads (if you get what I mean) but it producing enough for my son. Long story short - When I gave birth to my daughter, one of my breast stopped producing breastmilk and it was starting to swell and oh my - IT WAS SO PAINFUL. I thought I would try and help reduce the swelling by trying to massage my breast while showering, no it didn't work. I tried breast pumping, didn't work. I tried to get my kids to feed off it, it didn't work and it was too painful.
Few days later I told my mum and first thing she told me was to stop touching it because I am only going to make it worse. At this point my breast was so swollen, I was struggling to put a shirt on and even wearing a bra was too painful. My mum told me to buy a big green (must be green) cabbage and put it in the refrigerator - once it is cold, I would put a cabbage leaf in my bra and onto my breast and what it does is it will help the swelling to go down, and it will help with the pain and it did. It honestly helped sooth my breast, and the swelling went away completely after two weeks.
Disclaimer - I'm not a breastmilk specialist nor am I a midwife or a doctor and I don't know if this will 100% help you, but these two remedies helped me in my first and second pregnancy. I am only writing this to share my experiences.
