As a parent you naturally want what's best for your child. As a first time mum you don't know what's best, and you question yourself what is best for your child and so the first thing you lean towards are baby books and the internet. Spending large amounts of money on baby books and spending hours searching on the internet searching "first time mum", "what to pack for my hospital bag" and "baby necessities". Put that baby book down. Babies aren't computers. They aren't going to do what they are told, especially newborns. You can read as many baby books you want, and your newborn isn't going to be like what it said in the book. Of course there will be some parts you read would be relatable, but doesn't mean everything that is written in the book is the right way. Reading baby books, following it's guide on what to do and what to not do can cause you unnecessary stress.
Remember lucky dips? You will find them in small boutique, markets or baby stores - small prizes wrapped in wrapping paper or recycled newspaper, and you carefully pick which one and you have no idea what the prize will be and in your mind you're saying "please be a good one, please please". There isn't a manual or guide on how to pick the best lucky dip, and sometimes it's not what you expected it to be. That's what babies remind me of, lucky dips. You're probably thinking "What the heck?" or "That's the dumbest metaphor". That is how I see it as. You can write your own baby book because end of the day everyone is different, every baby is different and only you would now what's best for you and your baby. Your baby, is your baby. If your happy, your baby is happy. I don't like seeing other mum's putting themselves down and stressing out because of some book. Create your own baby book guide.
