Please introduce yourself -
My name is Emily Tomini. I'm 26 years young and a new mummy to my beautiful 5 month old daughter Alina Mia. I live in Perth, Western Australia which I love and don't see myself ever living anywhere else. Perth is home to me and holds so many beautiful memories. I'm married to the man of my dreams and in a few months time we'll have been together going on 9 years! I've spent more of my life with my Husband than without him. Crazy! I'm a self proclaimed mummy blogger and love sharing all things mum life and baby spam with the occasional selfie or photo of my cats! Who came up with the name for your baby and why? My husband came up with Alina and chose Mia as her middle name. We'd seen the name Elina and liked that but we always wanted an A name, no real reason we just like names starting with the letter A... He chose Alina and when I googled it I saw it was of Greek origin and meant 'light' so Alina it was... This was all before we even knew we were pregnant haha!! (We were that couple, longest baby name list pre baby)...
Did you have a good pregnancy?
I was lucky to have had a healthy and complication-free pregnancy. I'm one of those crazy women who loved being pregnant! Sure, there were moments where I was so over it but for the most part I really enjoyed it! I actually miss being pregnant haha! Where were you and what was your first reaction when you found out you were pregnant? I was at home. My husband and I had been trying for a baby so I knew it was likely but I just had this 'feeling'... No symptoms just a feeling. I went to the chemist, came home & peed on the stick. I was right! The hubby was out with friends so I called him to let him know. That's the one thing I'll always regret and I feel like I took something away from him. I wish I'd done the test together! But, there's always next time!
What has changed the most since becoming a mother?
What hasn't haha! In all seriousness the thing that's changed the most is me. In the best way possible. I now feel like I have a purpose in my life. Each day I strive to be the best person I can be. I have this little person who will always be looking up at me and I want to be the best role model for her. I'm more self loving, self accepting and self appreciating and I think that's something I never encompassed before motherhood. What were your first thoughts when you saw your baby for the first time?
Gosh to be honest I can't really remember. I think it was a mixture of shock, I just had a baby!! I also remember just looking at her feeling like I'd known her my whole life. Has your lifestyle changes drastically after having your baby? Not really. I was always such a homebody before I had Alina that I feel like I actually do more now that she's here. So in some ways it has changed because I get out and enjoy life more! The thing that's been most drastic is I can't just have a shower or pee the second I feel like it! Oh and sleep, but who needs that right!! (slowly dying of sleep deprivation).
What do you miss the most before becoming a mother?
Sleep!!! What do you love about being a mother?
My daughter obviously ;-) Just everything about her. I love being needed, I love nurturing her, making her happy and loving her. Those smiles and giggles, they make the world a better place! I love everything about motherhood, some things are hard as any mother knows but they won't last forever! Or maybe they will, but for the most part I love all there is about being a mum. Any advice for soon to be mothers and already mothers?
Be kind to yourself. It's ok to not have it all together all the time. You're learning to know your baby and at the same time learning to know yourself in this new role. We can't prepare for any of it, until you are a mum you won't know exactly what I mean. But be patient and gentle on you and ask for help when you need it!
